Schools in Clarksville, TN -- Where Will Your Kids Learn Best?

If you're moving to town with your entire family, there's a lot more that you have to take into consideration.  Simply finding an apartment in Clarksville that's close to work or that has great amenities may not be enough.  If you really want your family to live in the best Clarksville apartment, you've got to research the local schools before you sign a lease.

If your kids are going to go to public school, they'll be a part of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.  This district has 36 schools in it, and it caters to nearly 30,000 children every year.  Luckily, there isn't a "dud" in the bunch, because this school system has earned whole district accreditation.

You'll be happy to learn that none of the public high schools in Clarksville are TOO big.  All of them have roughly the same amount of students (each school fell between 1,400 and 1,700 in 2013).

But what if you want your kids to get more out of high school?

Consider sending them to Middle College.  Even though this school has "college" in its name, it's officially a public high school.  Middle College is different from the other high schools in town, though, because it's actually located on the Austin Peay State University campus.  High school juniors and seniors who go here get to take real college courses for credit.  That way, they can get a jumpstart on their college education -- for free!

However, Middle College isn't for any ol' student.  Your kids will have to apply to go here.  They'll have to turn over their academic transcripts, attendance records, and any discipline records they may have.  Then, they'll have to fill out an application that includes several short answer questions -- like "Describe your greatest strength" and "What are your career goals?"  The staff here wants to make sure that students can handle the freedom of a college campus, so they choose carefully!

There is another specialized school in Clarksville, in addition to Middle College.

Moore Magnet School is for elementary-aged kids who have a specific passion for math, engineering, and technology.  In fact, math and science will be integrated into every single class your kids take here.  Like Middle College, students have to apply to go here, too.  Your kids will need specific test scores to be considered.

What about private school?

There are 13 private schools spread out around Montgomery County.  Many of them have some sort of religious affiliation, but there are a few that are non-denominational.

The biggest private school in the area is Clarksville Academy, which serves students from Pre-Kindergarten all the way to 12th grade.  It's located near the River District, so that could be something to keep in mind when you're apartment-hunting.

Wherever you decide to live -- and no matter which schools your kids end up attending -- you can rest easy knowing they'll get a good education!
