Found a Great Apartment in Clarksville? Now You Need Utilities!
By Janie Curtis
That perfect Clarksville apartment can't officially be considered "home" until you've got all of the necessities hooked up -- like electricity, water, gas, and cable. (Hey, to us, cable TV feels like a necessity!)
In order to make the utility process as streamlined as possible, you need to follow these 3 tips:
1. Figure out if you're officially inside the Clarksville city limits
If your apartment is in Clarksville proper, you'll get your electricity from the Clarksville Department of Electricity. A quick phone call can get your new account up and running. Just be prepared to have your credit run. Like most other electric companies, the Clarksville Department of Electricity will waive your security deposit if your credit score is high enough. If it's not, plan on paying at least $150 to get your account set up.
If your apartment isn't inside the Clarksville city limits, you'll get your electricity from the Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation. This company serves over 90,000 people in five different counties. Like the Clarksville Department of Energy, all it will take is a quick phone call to get your account set up, and your credit will be run to see if you need to pay a security deposit. If you have to pay one, it will either be $150 OR two times the average bill at your apartment's location.
2. Find out what else your electric company can do for you
If you have an account with the Clarksville Department of Electricity, you can get a whole lot more than just power! In spite of their name, this company also offers phone service, internet service, and even digital TV service. And, if you order all three services, you'll qualify for a bulk discount! Best of all, the phone service comes with unlimited local and long distance calling, so you'll be able to keep in touch with loved ones, no matter how far they live from Clarksville!
Unfortunately, the Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation doesn't offer any services beyond electricity. So, if your apartment is outside the Clarksville city limits, you'll need to choose one of the phone and internet providers in the area.
3. Don't forget about gas and water
Whether your new apartment is inside the Clarksville city limits or not, you'll need to set up an account with Clarksville Gas and Water. They handle the gas and water needs for everyone in Montgomery County, and they handle the gas for many of the surrounding counties -- including Robertson, Cheatham, Christian, and Todd -- along with Fort Campbell itself. Just like your electricity, getting a gas and water account is as easy as making a quick phone call.
