Things to Do in Clarksville That Will Give You the True Flavor of the City

Clarksville may not be known as a "big city", but it definitely has some big city fun! If you live here, you'll never lack for things to do, but if you want to spend your free time getting the true flavor of the city, we think you need to:

1. Get up close and personal with Mother Nature

All of the 110 acres that make up Dunbar Cave State Park sit on Clarksville's eastern side, making this the perfect place to spend a warm weekend afternoon!

Dunbar Cave State Park's land was originally inhabited by Native Americans several centuries before English settlers arrived. By the time the Civil War ended, Clarksville officials realized they had a tourist hotspot on their hands, so they began building resorts nearby. Today, Dunbar Cave State Park is famous with the locals for its cave tours. If you'd rather hang out in the sunshine, though, you'll love the hiking trails, fishing from the shores of Swan Lake, and watching the wide variety of birds that live here.

2. Step back in time

Clarksville has a long history that stretches all the way back to the Colonial days. If you'd like to find out more about what has happened in Clarksville over the years, a trip to the Customs House Museum is an absolute must! Inside, you'll find a unique combination of historical artifacts, fine art, and interactive science exhibits. The museum is also home to one of the largest model train exhibits in all of Tennessee! So, whether you're looking for a fun place to take the kids or a place where you can indulge your adult self, this museum can't be beat!

You can also get a big taste of history just by walking around town. Clarksville is home to a number of sites that are listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, but if you want to combine as much history as possible into one spot, visit the Downtown Architectural Historic District. Here, you'll find office buildings, churches, and greenery that dates all the way back to the 1870's.

3. Have fun after hours

When the sun goes down, Clarksville heats up! Whether you like to spend your evenings at trendy nightclubs, local breweries, trendy bars where the food is just as good as the atmosphere, or casual bars where everyone seems to know your name, you'll find them here. As you might expect, many of Clarksville's hot spots are close to Austin Peay State University, but these aren't college-only hangouts. People of all ages here like to kick up their heels and have fun!
